The River Thames was everything I’d never dreamed of - immense swathes of slow moving water flanked by grassy banks and enormous weeping willows, push-button locks that took all the strain and some of the challenge away from this leg. We travelled as far as Windsor and spent a night sleeping opposite the castle, then turned around and pottered slowly back as red kites wheeled overhead.
